HIV antivirals are a group of medicines used to treat HIV infection (which can lead to AIDS). These medicines are also known as antiretrovirals. They may also be used to prevent HIV infection in people at high risk of acquiring this infection (e.g. after unprotected intercourse with an infected partner). These medicines are used in combination as part of a regimen to control HIV infection and prevent complications.
