Rheumatoid factor (RF) test determines the presence of rheumatoid antibodies in the body. These are the autoantibodies produced by body's own immune system that attack the healthy tissues. Presence of high level of RF antibodies might indicate the presence of serious autoimmune disorders such as rheumatoid arthritis, lupus erythematosus, chronic infections like tuberculosis and leukemia.

Symptoms like joints pain, fatigue, weight loss, fever, weakness, lumps formation may be suggestive of RF antibodies and testing is usually advised in such cases. Some other tests are also recommended in conjunction with RF test to reach a definitive diagnosis.
