Understanding Bilirubin Indirect
What is Bilirubin Indirect?
The bilirubin test is useful for checking the quantity of bilirubin inside of a patient’s blood. It is a common diagnostic examination for finding symptoms of anaemia, jaundice, or liver issues. In the lab test results, if the levels of bilirubin are very high, it means that the liver may not be working normally or that the breakdown rate of red blood cells is slow. This includes total, direct, and indirect test types.
Doctors suggest this test to check for conditions like gallstones, cirrhosis, sickle cell disease, or hepatitis. Here, the nurse draws blood and sends it for analysis in labs. It is important to mention your activity levels, medication history, and foods you have eaten to the doctor beforehand. You would need bilirubin testing if you notice symptoms like fatigue, dark urine, abdominal swelling, and nausea.
