What is ANA/ENA 18 Antigens, Qualitative Profile, Blot/LIA?
An Extractable Nuclear Antigen (ENA), Qualitative Profile is performed to find out the existence of one or more autoantibodies in the blood of an individual. These autoantibodies react with proteins present inside the nucleus of the cell and cause autoimmune disorders. The test is used to diagnose autoimmune disorders such as mixed connective tissue disease (MCTD), lupus (SLE), Sjögren syndrome, scleroderma, and polymyositis/dermatomyositis. Signs and symptoms of an autoimmune disorder may vary but most common symptoms include fever, fatigue, muscle, swelling in the joints, hair loss, hemolytic anemia, etc.

The test is performed when one or several of the following symptoms are visible in a patient.
• Dryness in the mouth, eyes and other parts of the body
• Dental decay
• Skin rash
• Fever
• Sensitivity to light

Interpretations
Positive results in the test may indicate the mixed connective tissue disorder, lupus (SLE), scleroderma, Sjogren’s syndrome, Nephritis, Antiphospholipid syndrome, pulmonary fibrosis and Polymyositis.
