Understanding Immunofixation Electrophoresis Serum in Mysore
What is Immunofixation Electrophoresis Serum in Mysore?
Immunofixation Electrophoresis (IFX) Serum test is conducted to detect abnormal antibodies, present in the blood. The IFX test is often used to diagnose plasma cell disorder multiple myeloma when symptoms of the disorders are present. The symptoms of plasma cell disorders are bone pain, back pain especially around the ribs, and frequent infections.
This test alone cannot be used to make a diagnosis. However, it can indicate whether abnormal Immunoglobulins (Ig) are present. Another test is also conducted to measure the amount of abnormal Igs in the blood, this test is called the serum protein electrophoresis (SPEP) test.
A positive result from the test indicates the presence of abnormal antibodies. The antibodies may be suggestive of health conditions like immune system disorder, Waldenstrom’s macroglobulinemia, and other types of cancers.
