This quantitative assay measures hepatitis B surface antigen (HBsAg) in chronic hepatitis B patients. This test helps to identify inactive carriers and evaluate the risk of infection progression in chronic hepatitis B patients.
The test may be required to distinguish between the various infection stages and ascertain whether the virus is replicating. It is recommended for patients diagnosed with hepatitis B infection by PCR testing or qualitative Hepatitis B antigen. It may also be recommended to patients considered for treatment or treated with antiviral drugs.
