Niftas Tablet SR works by stopping the growth of the bacteria in the urine that cause urinary tract infections. This medicine usually makes you feel better quite quickly. However, you should continue taking it as long as it is prescribed even when you feel better, to make sure that all bacteria are killed and do not become resistant.

Breast feeding

Driving
UNSAFE
Niftas Tablet SR may decrease alertness, affect your vision or make you feel sleepy and dizzy. Do not drive if these symptoms occur.
Kidney
CAUTION
Niftas Tablet SR should be used with caution in patients with kidney disease. Dose adjustment of Niftas Tablet SR may be needed. Please consult your doctor.
Use of Niftas Tablet SR is not recommended in patients with severe kidney disease, who are unable to pass urine or have high creatinine levels.

How long does Niftas Tablet SR take to work on a UTI?
Niftas Tablet SR starts acting quickly, but you will not start feeling better immediately after taking it. It may take a few days (2-3 days) before you see any improvement in your symptoms. You should take Niftas Tablet SR with your meal or straightaway after the meal. Taking with food helps in absorption of medicine so that it works better. If you take it without food, you are likely to get an upset stomach. The symptoms include nausea, vomiting, diarrhoea, and loss of appetite may also occur. You should inform your doctor if you get vaginal itching or discharge after taking Niftas Tablet SR or soon after stopping it.
Is Niftas Tablet SR a strong antibiotic?
Yes, Niftas Tablet SR is a strong antibiotic (or broad spectrum antibiotic), which means that it is effective against a wide variety of urinary bacteria. It is important that Niftas Tablet SR should be given to treat or prevent infections that are proven to be caused by susceptible bacteria. This is usually evaluated by a culture test which demonstrates a range of bacteria which cannot grow in the prence of an antibiotic. Niftas Tablet SR has seen to be effective against UTI caused by Escherichia coli, Enteroccus faecalis, Klebsiella species, Enterobacter species, Staphylococcus species: (eg S. aureus, S. saprophyticus, S. epidermidis). Some strains of Enterobacter and Klebsiella are resistant to Niftas Tablet SR.
